When Should I Seek an Evaluation?

Parents often wonder whether a child will “grow out of it” or simply needs more time.

Sometimes patience is appropriate. Other times, earlier answers prevent unnecessary frustration.

It may be time to seek an evaluation if:

  • if your child has more than one of the warning signs of dyslexia
  • reading progress remains slow
  • spelling is unusually difficult
  • homework causes distress
  • confidence is dropping
  • teacher concerns continue
  • family history of dyslexia exists
  • tutoring has not solved the issue

An evaluation can help clarify strengths, challenges, and the best next steps.
